Inside the quantiverse: Meet our Data Scientist, Tobias

Written by People & Culture | Jan 29, 2024 2:00:00 PM

Hi, my name is Tobias. I’m a Data Scientist at quantilope and have been with the company for 1.5 years.

Before quantilope, I was studying economics, where I discovered my passion for problems in the intersection of economics, statistics, and computer science.

💻 What are your responsibilities as a Data Scientist?

As a Data Scientist, I’m responsible for automating our market research solutions that enable users to gain actionable insights into their survey data faster than market standards (and without needing statistical knowledge!)

Automation is key to my role, which requires me to think a lot about making analyses statistically sound across different applications. I'm also responsible for providing automated solutions and features to our Insights Automation Platform without users noticing they’re using them.

🤓 What does your day-to-day look like?

My tasks are pretty diverse and can change quickly each day. One day, I might be developing new marketing or machine learning models, while on another day, I’ll collect feedback from clients and colleagues on how we can improve our product. Being a Data Scientist at quantilope fosters technical and business skills that enable us to enhance the product to better meet the needs of our users.

🔍 What's been your favorite project so far?

My favorite project so far allowed me to learn about Bayesian inference for (discrete) choice models to measure consumer preferences.

Here, I developed a high-performance Python package based on JAX that requires significantly less memory and runs blazingly fast when clients use our platform’s choice-based methods (MaxDiff and Conjoint).

😍 What are you passionate about at work?

I love building statistical models and optimizing them in terms of performance and robustness to empower our clients to easily use quantilope’s Insights Automation for high-quality research. I also love that my job lets me explore productivity and automation processes to make others more productive.

🚀 What advice would you give to someone looking to get into Data Science?

Data Science is a very diverse field, and there are many different ways and opportunities to enter it. Whether you have a degree in social or natural sciences, want to work on more business and strategic topics, or spend more time developing software, there is a role for you! In particular, becoming a Data Science might be right for you if you have strong problem-solving skills!

👍 Why do you choose to work at quantilope?

At quantilope, we work on building the Insights Automation Platform that requires creative solutions for problems that haven't been tackled in our industry before.

quantilope provides a supportive and feedback-oriented environment that helps you grow quickly and consistently. I appreciate the amount of trust and autonomy put in people. Come join us!
