Consumer Now Index Q3 2020: quantilope’s Quarterly Consumer Pulse
quantilope’s Consumer NOW Index captures the ongoing fluctuations in consumer behavior for researchers and marketers to stay connected to their consumers' radically changing motivations and needs.
The Consumer NOW Index surveys 400 US consumers monthly with the insights reported on a quarterly basis. The following report is created to provide companies with the tools and approaches they need to better understand these target groups. It provides action-oriented insights into the current consumer mood and sheds light on areas such as:
- Consumer Well-Being Scores
- Unconscious/underlying emotional states
- Basic needs and principles
- Activity engagement
- Purchasing behaviors and intentions
- Future outlook
From a consumer behavior standpoint, this past quarter has been one of the most eventful in recent history. With a pandemic, presidential election, wildfires, and nationwide protests, it’s been a rollercoaster of emotions for consumers. And during such a historical time, quantilope’s Consumer Now Index was along for the ride.
Last quarter, between July and September 2020, our Consumer Now Index captured the following key findings:
Consumers are doing objectively well, especially males and middle-aged consumers.
Older generations are responding to current times more peacefully than younger ones.
Physiological needs remain at the core of consumers, yet higher needs such as autonomy and social justice are becoming increasingly important.
We are in a tech-centric time, both in terms of leisure and purchase transactions.
Consumers are beginning to spend more on non-essential items as they are eager to return to normal activities.
Our quarterly report goes beyond overall well-being scores and also compares current day satisfaction to future outlook. Notably, a greater number of consumers felt positive about the future than they did present day, which may signal a generally optimistic outlook toward the remainder of the year and high hopes for 2021 (which we look forward to observing in our next quarterly report in January).
