Starting a new job is a mix of anticipation, excitement, and curiosity. Will the team be welcoming? How steep is the learning curve? What is the company culture really like once you step past the interview stage?

Below, Marina Ledda and Amelie Murphy share their experiences joining the quantilope team and highlight what future new hires can expect in their first few weeks.

Key Takeaways:

  • Seamless onboarding experience: New team members are set up for success right away with pre-configured access, clear training schedules, and early hands-on responsibilities.
  • Values-driven workplace culture: quantilope's CODE values—Curiosity, Openness, a Doer mindset, and Empowerment—are demonstrated through supportive colleagues and meaningful 1:1 sessions.
  • Focus on connection and community: Regular traditions such as Company Breakfasts and informal coffee chats foster cross-team relationships and belonging.
  • Proactive engagement matters: Asking questions, embracing curiosity, and saying yes to informal gatherings are key to making a smooth transition during week one.

Before we dive into the details of week one, a quick introduction! We are Marina and Amelie from the People and Culture team and two new faces in quantilope’s Hamburg office. 👋

  • Marina joined as an Office Manager, leveraging her passion for creating incredible workplace experiences, promoting cross-cultural connections, and bringing the quantilope brand to life every day.
  • Amelie joined as a Junior People Operations Manager, dedicated to shaping memorable first impressions and making sure every new team member feels supported, included, and set up for success from day one.

When the opportunity arose to join quantilope, neither of us hesitated. Beyond the impressive platform itself, what really sold us during the interview process was the energy. quantilope stood out as a place that genuinely values innovation, global perspectives, openness, and human connection. It offers a high-growth environment where you can actually shape outcomes rather than just follow a playbook.

Now that we’ve settled into our seats, we wanted to write this post to give future new joiners transparency into what to expect during their very first week.

Amelie's Experience: A smooth start

- Amelie Murphy, Junior People Operations Manager

  • Onboarding, simplified: The administrative part was incredibly smooth. My team had already prepared my equipment and given me access to the necessary tools. I had a clear schedule for the week, which included essential IT and HR sessions, plus a culture workshop. This helped tremendously, especially since this is my first role after completing my master’s degree last year.
  • Diving in: By Wednesday, I wasn't just shadowing; I was already assigned tasks. It felt good to be hands-on and able to contribute right away, and knowing I had a safety net of supportive colleagues made all the difference.

Marina's Take: Culture and connection are key

For me, the most important part of joining a new company is feeling connected to the mission and the people. quantilope really excelled at making that connection happen immediately.

- Marina Ledda, Office Manager

  • Meeting the team: I immediately felt the "quantilope culture" and our CODE company values: Curiosity, Openness, a Doer mindset, and Empowerment. Everyone was incredibly welcoming. I had scheduled 1:1 meetings with key team members, which weren't just formalities; colleagues genuinely took the time to explain their roles, highlight how we'd collaborate, and offer their help.
  • Company Breakfasts: Once a month we have a Company Breakfast event with a multicultural focus, which is a great way to socialize while enjoying some good food and drinks.

If you’re preparing to join quantilope, here are our top tips:

  1. Ask all the questions, be curious, and say yes to coffee: Accept every invitation for a quick chat or coffee break. Building those relationships early on is key.
  2. Find your favorite ritual: Whether it's the monthly Company Breakfast, a weekly team lunch, or the Company Coffee, take advantage of informal events.

Wishing you a great start!
